IMG_1127Using water-soluble graphite pencil for Vegetation and surrounding area. They work great for filling in a large area fast but they are kind of a double edge sword. The paper I’m using is Bristol not sure the weight number I think it’s somewhere in the 400nds, but trust me it’s not heavy enough to do a whole water-color painting. So as I start to us it more and more the paper starts to warp. Which means I have to take my time and wait for it to dry fully and use as little water as possible. It looks fine so far but I’m starting to get this felling that maybe too much is going on in the drawing.

IMG_1113Inking is pretty much done and now time for the pencil art. I also want to take this time to tell you what tools I’m using just in case you were wondering. I’m using a mix of ink liners ( Fancy Pens made for art. ) and pencils. The ink liners consist of.

Copic Multiliner SP   0.01 – 0.5

Staedtler pigment liner   0.1 – 0.7

Micron   0.1

and a mix of a bunch of different Pentel pens that being the

Stylo

Brush Pen

Brush Felt Tip

I use a whole bunch of different types of pencils, but my favorite to work with is the Faber-Castell 9000 series. The values I like to stick with is 2H, 2B, and 4B. I don’t really use the higher values until touch ups in the Drawing. I also use a Prismacolor Premier Black Colored pencil. I use it for the darkness values in the drawing  as well as adding a extra outline to make the figure pop and added value. to finish it off I use a mix of smudgers ( paper sticks ) and paint brushes. The reason I use them is to help give the pencils that soft airbrush look which is mostly used for skin.

New Project: Pin Up Mucha ( Work in Progress )

I was walking around Barnes and Noble and on my way out I saw a book about Alphonse Mucha in the 50% off table. With me being a huge Adam Hughes fan and one of his inspirations being art nouveau I knew I had to buy it. Alphonse Mucha if you don’t know is one of the greatest art nouveau Artist of all time. I highly recommend you go and check out his work. After looking through the book I got inspired to make a Good Girl drawing based on Alphonse Mucha. Using his show of cloth, flowers, and nature patterns. I also took a pose out of the “Great American Pin Up” book that I also bought from Barnes and Noble……. ( Barnes and Noble for the Win. )

High school

This an old pice I made in my senior year of high school (GO EAGLES!!!!). It was one of the frist things I felt like I did a good job on. Looking back at it now, I see a few things I could have done better, but I still like it thou. I would also say this was one of the frist pieces that defined my direction as an artist most. Growing up I use to draw fighter planes and race cars just to past the time in school, but when ever I showed someone something like this, and in retrun the look they would give me. It made me feel like I was good at something and I wanted to chace that felling. Ever sence then ive tended to draw portraits of people ( mostly women ) trying to get as close as I can to getting to the real thing. It was also around this time I found the frist artist that inspired me. Adam Hughes famed comic book artist whose work mostly consisted of pin ups and good girl art that had me spellbound.
